The theme editor
Shopify’s theme guide shows Customize as the way to change the homepage, product page, and header. A section is a band on the page. A block is a piece inside it.
Change the announcement, the featured collection, and the footer links. Leave the product form alone until you have used checkout once.
The homepage
Point a featured collection at a collection that has products. An empty collection leaves a blank band. Collections are in Shopify Collections.
Use one clear headline. The store name in the header is enough branding for launch.
Check a phone width
The editor has a mobile preview. Open it. Buttons and the menu should be tappable. A homepage that only looks right on a wide screen fails the customer you are likely to get.
The setup guide asks for that check. It is How to Create a Shopify Store.
Leave the code
A badge or a shipping bar should come from an app embed, not from editing Liquid on day one. That path is Shopify Apps and Theme Embeds.
Duplicate the theme before any code edit. The unpublished copy is your way back.
