How to Add Tracking on Shopify
Tracking is the number you add at fulfillment. The customer uses it to follow the parcel.

Fulfill the item
Shopify’s fulfillment guide has you fulfill the items that have shipped. Partial fulfillment is for when only some lines have a number.
On a dropshipping order the supplier creates the number. You copy it. The chain is in How to Fulfill a Shopify Dropshipping Order.
Paste the number
Enter the tracking number and select the carrier. If the carrier is missing, Shopify still stores the number, and you can add a tracking URL when you have one.
A wrong digit makes a dead link. Compare the number with the supplier’s email before you save.
The email
The shipping confirmation includes tracking when you added it. Edit that template in Shopify Order Emails.
Send one to yourself by fulfilling a test order that has a real or sample number, so you can see the layout.
When there is no number yet
Wait for the supplier. Marking fulfilled with an empty tracking field tells the customer it shipped and gives them nothing to follow. Supplier timing is part of How to Choose a Shopify Dropshipping Supplier.
If the number arrives a day later, open the fulfillment and add it.
