Hedge
Hedge measures caches, logs, and developer leftovers on a Mac, then moves what you select into the Trash. Memory, temperature, and a few security switches sit on the same sidebar.

A gift is optional
Send PKR to one personal account. The titles and IBANs are in the section below.
Numbers in the window are a sample, so you can see the layout. On your Mac they come from that machine, and they stay there.
A scan, then a trim.
Overview is the first page. Hedge walks the places Mac apps leave behind: app caches, browser caches, developer tools, Xcode DerivedData, device support, archives, logs, old installers in Downloads, and the Trash. Checked rows are included. Unchecked rows stay.
- Scan measures. It deletes nothing.
- Trim moves the selection into the Trash, where you can put it back.
- Emptying the Trash is the only permanent delete, and Hedge asks first.
- The first launch asks you to choose your home folder, because the app is sandboxed.
How the Mac is breathing.
Health is a quiet reading of the machine you are on. Processor, memory, and free disk sit in three cards. Under them, the apps using the most memory. The thermal word, Cool or warmer, sits next to how long the Mac has been awake.
- Processor load for the last minute, five minutes, and fifteen.
- Memory in use against the total installed.
- Free disk, the same number as the ring in the sidebar.
- The busiest apps, so a heavy one is obvious before you open Memory.
What is holding on.
Memory splits the Mac into app memory, wired memory, compressed memory, cached memory, and free memory. Cached memory is already available. macOS gives it back when something needs it, so Hedge does not pretend to “boost” RAM by purging it.
- Select ordinary apps and choose Quit. Hedge asks them to close.
- An app can still show a save dialog. Hedge does not force it.
- Finder, the Dock, and Hedge stay off the list.
- If macOS will not let Hedge quit an app, Activity Monitor is the fallback.
Cool, warm, hot, or throttling.
Temperature is the thermal state macOS reports when it decides whether to slow the machine down. Hedge does not read a private sensor, and it does not invent a Celsius number. A public app is not given that reading.
- Cool, Warm, Hot, or Throttling, in the word macOS uses.
- A live trace of processor use beside it, about four minutes long.
- Samples stay on this Mac. Nothing is uploaded.
A reading of the switches.
Security checks FileVault, the firewall, Gatekeeper, System Integrity Protection, the wake password, automatic login, the guest account, remote login, update checks, and XProtect. If a check cannot be read, it stays unknown. Hedge would rather say that than invent a warning.
- Read only. Hedge does not flip these switches.
- It does not scan your files for malware.
- Settings opens the matching System Settings pane when macOS can show one.
- The list is there so you can see what is fastened, then decide yourself.
A short local record.
Activity is the notebook of what Hedge itself did. A trim, and a request to quit an app, show up here. The record stays on the Mac. Hedge does not keep an account, and it does not upload a scan.
- Trims, with what was moved to the Trash.
- Quit requests from the Memory page.
- Nothing else is written down.
What a trim leaves alone
Hedge refuses paths outside its allowlist. It will not delete your home folder, documents, photos, mail, passwords, or system files. Items other than the Trash go to the Trash. Review the list before you trim.
Install needs a Mac on macOS 14 or later, and Xcode. Open the project, run it, and the first time choose the home folder that contains Desktop, Documents, and Library. The steps are in the README.
A gift, if you want
Hedge stays free either way. Send Pakistani rupees to one personal account. Copy the account title exactly as it is written. Wise needs the title and the IBAN. A bank wire also needs the SWIFT code.

Frequently asked questions
Does Hedge delete my files?
Trim moves the selection to the Trash. Documents, photos, mail, and passwords are not in the scan. Emptying the Trash is the permanent step, and Hedge asks first.
Does it clean RAM?
It shows how memory is split, and it can ask selected apps to quit. It does not purge caches out from under macOS.
Can it show the CPU temperature in degrees?
No. It shows the thermal state macOS reports: Cool, Warm, Hot, or Throttling.
Does the security page scan for viruses?
No. It reads a set of switches. It does not change them, and it does not scan files.
Where do I send a gift?
Any one of the three personal accounts above. Use the account title on that row.
